Bella's story
"Jesus's World" as seen by Bella Braswell
It was a typical Friday morning and I had just gotten Bentley (our 8 month old) downstairs to my mom. Bella who was still snoozin (little to our knowledge it was because she had been on quite the journey the night before). We sold our house earlier this year and are in the process of deciding to buy or build so we moved in behind our parents in an apartment that they have over the garage. ( With two little ones this has been quite wonderful for the time being.) As I was coming out of the house to wake Bella, my husband David pulled in which was very unusual. He is in construction so he leaves in the wee hours of the morning and works pretty late most days. Not taking the extra hands for granted I asked him to get Bella up and ready while I grabbed some laundry. I was sorting laundry in the bathroom when I heard David say "Bella did you sleep good last night?". "Yes daddy, I had the best dream". Now Bella, who just turned four in October has never once mentioned a dream so as a mom I knew this was unusual. I stopped what I was doing to listen. "You did, well what did you dream about Bella?". With a smile in her voice she simply said "Jesus". I quickly popped my head around the corner to see David's face but was careful not to let Bella see me as I didn't want to interrupt this special moment! "Well what did he look like Bella? Was he tall like daddy?". "Well kinda" she responded. "Well did he have blonde hair like you?". "No daddy" she said laughing "he has brown hair, and it was kinda long like my granddaddies". (My father In law wears a ponytail.) "And he had hair like this" and she began to run both of her hands along her face and down to her chin. "That's a beard Bella " David explained. No men in our family have one so it was unfamiliar to her. "And daddy he's not like us, he is kinda brown, and his hands they are so shiny daddy (his glory) and he kinda glows! And there are people and houses everywhere daddy!". At this point any doubt I had of what she was telling her daddy flew out the window. Being on a tight time crunch and somewhat in shock we got the kids in the car. I quickly told David I would be sure to tell him every detail that I got from Bella on our ride. So as we were on our way I noticed Bella was very seriously staring out the window. I wanted to be careful not to ask too many questions as you can lead a child into saying things, so I simply told her I was so happy she had such a special dream. Her response was no where near what I was expecting. "Mama, why does he gots holes in his hands?" Now to give you the background Bella knew Jesus died on the cross for her but did not know the brutality of what he had gone through. So this was profound. So as tears began to well up and I was trying to fight the knot in my throat I explained it all. Listening very intently she caringly interrupted me with authority and said "but mama did you know he didn't do anything wrong?" . "Yes Bella you are right he didn't ". We rode in silence the next few minutes. Me trying to get my composure and Bella just seemed to be in another world. As we were pulling in my mother-in-laws driveway she said "mama when are his hands coming out of the sky to get us?" You can imagine that at point, I lost it. We are very open in our home with our faith and Bella knows Jesus is returning one day to get his children, but we have never explained it in that way. "I just miss him so bad mama and I want to go back. I just want him to get us now" she said crying sincerely heart broken. Here was my "mama's girl" having a true emotional connection with someone other than a family member to the point of tears. I quickly got them into my mother-in-laws, briefly shared her experience and went to work. All I wanted to do was sit at Bella's feet and listen to everything she had to say about my precious Jesus. I saw a love, peace and new found joy in Bella that could not be explained. I rushed home after work & got the children home. I got their baths & we ate dinner and they were playing. "Mama? Did you know I got to see the angels while I was there? You know in Jesus's world?". "They would do their hands like this (she began to move her arms and hands into a motion of an orchestrated choir director to a flying motion to finish) and they were singing good things mama". "Well what kind of good things Bella?". "Mama you know! About Jesus and God". "Did you know that God is really really big mama, I mean he is a giant. You know this world? Well he is bigger than this whole world mama. And you know we don't have to worry about those bad creatures?" "The bad creatures Bella?". "Yes mama the bad creatures. God stood up and he said like this (she pointed her finger to the sky with authority) He said he threw those bad creatures from heaven one time! And he is gonna do it again and lock them up so they can't ever hurt us again!". David looked at me and we had the same face. Somewhere between amazement and shock. We, at the same time, realized our child was quoting from Genesis to Revelation and those bad creatures she was referring to were demons. At the age of four, she would have had no way to comprehend or remember the amount of details so consecutively or as matter of factly as she was rolling them out, without Divine assistance! "Mama did you know there is a hot place? It's where all the bad creatures have to go. But good people have to go there too mama. It's a very bad place. Jesus took me there and it's very very far away from his world mama." "Good People Bella?" "Yes mama, they don't got Jesus in their heart". Now, we had never, up until this point, felt the need to discuss hell with Bella. But Jesus personally shared some very important details with Bella that she has since clear that it's very very important that she tell everyone. This was all on the Friday night of the morning of her dream. On Sunday I pulled up the picture of Jesus from the book "Heaven is for real" by Todd & Colton Burpo. (If you haven't read it I highly recommend it.) In the book, Todd, the dad who was also a minister, was continuously showing Colton (his son) pictures of Jesus hoping he would say one of them looked like Him. With no luck, he sees a young girl on CNN being interviewed. She was a Russian girl who was raised in an atheist home but had been having heavenly visitations. (Because of this she is now a child prodigy who paints and her artwork sells for hundreds of thousands dollars). She had painted a picture of Jesus. So when he showed it to his Colton, he immediately said yeh dad, that's Him. So remembering all this I pulled it up on my cell phone. I said "Bella do you know who this is?" Grabbing my phone quickly she said "mama where did you get this?!". I told her about Colton's story of seeing Jesus too. She said "mama that is my Jesus but his hair is a little longer than that!". Since then Bella has told us some pretty amazing details. I've just scratched the surface as it's way too much to type, and a quick email doesn't do it justice! She shared her story at our women's bible study at my Salon in nashville that we have once a month! Bella did wonderful!! Didn't miss a detail and asked everyone to close there eyes when she got finished so she could pray! When she did that I asked her if there was anything else she would like to share and she simply said "It's real." So from our family to yours I pray God will bless your family this year more than ever before, and that His peace be in your hearts as you know "It's Real". Many Blessings,
David, Dana, Bella & Bentley Braswell
