Debbie had morning devotions and she spoke to us about living in the Spirit rather than living in the flesh, about living in the Word of God and staying in the Word. She talked about humbling ourselves to the Word and making it our "How to" book. In order to stay in the Word of God folks, we have to read our bibles. Debbie provided us a good analogy of how we drift from God if we don't stay in the word. It's like a boat, tied to a dock. The boat (christians) is tethered to the dock by a rope.... the rope is like the Word. Without the Word, the boat would drift away from the dock with each crash of a wave. In order for the boat to stay connected to the dock, the rope must be strong. It's the same with us.... in order for Christians to stay strong, we must know the word and constantly remind ourselves of the Word.
Work on the new addition resumed this morning following breakfast. We're still sanding, but are also hanging the framework and tiles for the suspended ceiling. Got a little painting done too... so we're on our way. We hope to have the ceiling installed tomorrow, and have all of the painting done by Friday. There is enough work to keep us busy so we'll have plenty to do tomorrow.
Evening devotion was given by Terri. Galatians 6:1-11 talks about doing good to all. It talks about how we will reap what we sow... if we sow according to our sinful natures, we will reap destrusction, which to me means that if we do things only so that someone will see and recognize our 'good work', we will not be exhaulted in heaven. If we sow to please the Spirit, we will reap eternal life, which to me means giving and doing with a humble heart, not seeking praise for our works. Doing good is something we should not grow weary of because God wants us to do good to others. Now, don't get me wrong... there is nothing wrong with being proud of good work..... there is nothing wrong with sharing the things you've accomplished. I also believe that it is good to be proud of your talents..... the problem is when the glory for all is not given to God. Without Him, we would have, and be, nothing. The glory for doing good is not our own, it belongs to God. Taking all the credit for something He does through us is not pleasing, but sinful. Isaiah 66:2 says "This is the one I esteem: he who is humble and contrite in spirit...."
Sure, it's hard for us to allow God to take credit, the glory, for our good deeds and works. But, God deserves the credit, for without Him, who are we?
The crowd takes a much needed break.....
Ashley and Ashley take a mid afternoon coffee break. Homemade bread pudding too.....yum.. yum!!
Susan and Tobee take a break too. You can tell Susan has been doing some sanding....:)
We are praying for you all at home. We know the weather there is cold and some will likely loose power, so we pray for God's watchfulness and protection over you.
Don't forget, pray to God tonight and thank him for everything you want to wake up with in the morning.
We leave you tonight with this:Matthew 23:12 "For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted."
