Be God's Light in the World

Morning devotion at 7:00am (yep, kinda early.... but breakfast is at 7:30am and work gets started pretty quickly once we're fed).   Ashley Vinson talked to us about being God's light into the world through our work for God here on earth.  John 9:4, Heb 6:11, and 2Pet 1:10.  We are to work cheerfully for the Lord and He will pay us our fair share of His kingdom.

At first, we thought we were going to get right to pouring concrete for the sidewalk around the building we're working on.   That didn't happen quite as quickly as some of us would have liked, but it's all good.  We don't lack for things to do.   As things sometimes happen, we were diverted from our expected project to a septic problem.  One of the bathrooms and the kitchen water drains were backed up so we began digging to find the problem.  We hit the line that was broken, and discovered something much larger than we expected.  The foreman here at the church called in a back hoe, and began digging a whole new drainage line.  Several of the group had to jump into that drainage ditch and shovel excess dirt out from 15 feet down.  About midway through that project, we started mixing concrete and hauling it to the job site.
Now comes the God moment.....After about 3 pours, the contractor decided that we did not have enough materials to complete the sidewalk.  We began using the dirt that was being dug out of the new drainage system to fill in between the rocks we had poured... so we wouldn't have to use soooooo much concrete, so here again, the Lord provided for us.  Had we NOT had the extra piles of dirt, we would have had to purchase way more concrete.  It is amazing what He does all around us, that manifests itself in the simplest things.

After lunch, we really got busy getting the cement mixer going and gave it a good workout.  We used (25) 100lb bags of concrete,  75 cubic feet of sand and 50 cubic feet of gravel....  and 140 gallons of water.    (Patrick..... we missed you today like you cannot believe)  We now have 26 sunburn shoulders, 13 sunburn necks, 26 aching arms, 26 sore legs, 26 sore feet and 13 super full hearts.  We thought we were here to do one thing, God wanted us to do something else first, and we did it all with smiles and good humor, EVEN when our contractor came behind us after we had finished the concrete over the drain line from the new kitchen, and dug it back up because HE (and I mean the contractor) forgot the water line!!!!  We were blessed to have many extra helpers today, another round of great food, and great weather.

We're going to bed now.... may God be with us through the night so that we wake in the morning ready to go again.   Pleasant dreams to you all..... and we probably won't have many at all.   We love you all.
